What Are Railway Ties & Power Poles?
Railway ties are the horizontal wooden beams laid across railroad tracks to keep the rails evenly spaced and stable. Railroad Switch Ties are railway ties used at rail turnouts or crossovers which are generally longer in length. Power poles are tall wooden poles that hold up electric wires, helping to distribute electricity across long distances. Some railway ties or power poles are made of metal but mainly are made of wood. If you have metal poles or ties they are placed in a separate bin from the wooden poles or ties as they go to a different location.
Why Need A Railway Tie & Power Pole Bin?
Railway Ties & Power Poles are special and only go to one recycle center in Saskatchewan. They are NOT to be mixed with normal waste as they DO NOT go to the city landfills. They are special because of the oily substance coating called creosote around the bottoms of power poles and all over the railway ties. This oily substance is a carcinogenic poison with arsenic in it, meaning it harms bodies of water, people, and animals to the touch and taste. Please safely handle these items with the correct precautions (gloves, masks, and safety glasses).
Who Needs A Railway Tie & Power Pole Bin?
If you want to dispose of or remove railway ties and/or power poles. For example, a residential home, farmyard, or acreage could have railway ties put into their landscaping in the past and now need them removed. Or someone who needs railway ties and/or power poles cleaned up (removing an environmental hazard) so that that property can be sold. We can also remove and place the railway ties and/or power poles in a bin for you (additional charges apply).
