Elm Tree Waste
About

What Is Elm Tree Waste?

Elm tree waste refers to organic material produced during pruning, removal, or storm cleanup — including branches, leaves, and cut logs. Because Dutch Elm Disease spreads through infected wood and bark beetles, all elm debris must be handled and disposed of with care to protect the surrounding tree population.

  • Elm branches and limb sections
  • Elm leaves and foliage
  • Small elm logs and trunk sections
  • Pruning debris and elm sawdust
Accepted Materials

What Goes in an Elm Tree Bin?

Our elm tree bins are reserved exclusively for elm material. Consistent bin contents ensure compliant, safe disposal of potentially infected debris.

Accepted

Only elm tree material is permitted in these bins.

  • Elm tree branches and limbs
  • Elm leaves and foliage
  • Small elm logs (under 3 ft in length)
Not Accepted

Mixing materials contaminates the load and may result in additional fees.

  • Other tree species or yard waste
  • Household garbage or food waste
  • Construction or renovation debris
  • Recyclables or electronics

Handling Requirements

Elm Tree Handling Requirements
  • Cut all branches and limbs to a manageable size before loading.
  • Logs and trunk sections must not exceed 3 feet in length.
  • Wear gloves and follow biosecurity protocols to minimize disease risk.
  • Limit movement of infected material — transport only what is necessary.
All elm tree waste must be fully contained within the bin at all times. Loose or overhanging material can facilitate pest movement and disease transmission, and may result in the bin not being serviced.
